Adjudication: Celebrating Excellence, Inspiring Growth

CHOA-Parade-Rectangle.jpgThe Objective of Adjudication
At the heart of the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards is the belief that feedback fuels growth. Our adjudication process isn’t just about selecting winners—it’s about celebrating student achievement, encouraging artistry, and strengthening the educational impact of musical theatre across Georgia.

Every adjudicator helps students see what’s working, what’s growing, and what’s possible—transforming each production into a learning experience that builds confidence, skill, and storytelling craft.

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s progress, reflection, and a shared love for
the art of storytelling.

Adjudication Criteria
Adjudicators assess how well each production demonstrates the foundational elements of strong storytelling across all evaluated categories—elements that are achievable by every program, regardless of budget. While available resources and funding may influence the depth or level of execution, they do not change the core expectations.

Each musical is evaluated on how effectively it meets these criteria within its own context, encouraging schools to produce their strongest work using the tools and support they have, while recognizing when additional resources allow for enhanced detail or complexity.
